Ask Robbie for a dinner date?

Mariah Carey has invited Robbie Williams on a dinner date after he impressed her with his show-stopping Live 8 performance.

The curvy singer was blown away by the hunky star's charismatic set, which included his hit songs 'Angels', 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Feel', and she is said to be keen to work with him.

So shortly after the show, Mariah - who sang 'Make It Happen', 'Hero' and 'We Belong Together' at the show in London's Hyde Park - reportedly sent him a message, suggesting they get together.

Mariah has previously collaborated with Boyz II Men, Whitney Houston and Irish boy band Westlife, while Robbie has duetted with Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue and Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman.

Mariah Carey to become author

Mariah Carey has announced plans to write a series of children's books.

Following in the footsteps of fellow diva Madonna, Carey will publish a series of illustrated children's tales following the life a bi-racial orphan girl.

Entitled Automatic Princess, the stories will be based upon her own experiences growing up as part of a mixed-race family, reports MTV.

She explained: "The way I do things, I need to be involved. I wouldn't just be like, 'Here's a concept, go run with it.'

"It's still something I really want to do, and I'm going to do, and I'm going to start getting that into production soon."

Biography

Born 27 March 1970, Long Island, New York, USA. With an unparalleled string of US chart-toppers already under her belt, it is little surprise that Carey is billed as the 90s' Whitney Houston.

Carey was the third child of an Irish-American mother, a former opera singer turned voice tutor, and a half-Venezuelan father. As a schoolgirl Carey began singing on R&B sessions in New York when she met keyboard player and songwriter Ben Margulies (b. c.1963) who became her songwriting partner and close friend.

With Carey writing the melodies and most of the lyrics, and Margulies arranging the songs, they developed a simple blend of soul, gospel and pop that showed off Carey's amazing vocal range to the full.
