 Jim Broadbent, who has had an illustrious career on the stage, and in television and films recently won the Academy Award for his moving performance as Iris Murdoch’s devoted husband in “Iris.”He also recently appeared as Renee Zellwegger's father in the comedy hit "Bridget Jones's Diary" and co-starred opposite Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor in Baz Lurhmann's film "Moulin Rouge." In 1999, Broadbent won accolades for his performance as W. H. Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) in Mike Leigh's "Topsy Turvy."
Among Broadbent's other films are "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice," "The Avengers," "The Borrowers," "Smilla's Sense of Snow," "Secret Agent," Woody Allen's "Bullets Over Broadway," "Princess Caraboo," Neil Jordan's "The Crying Game," "Enchanted April," Mike Leigh's "Life Is Sweet," "Superman IV," "The Good Father," "Time Bandits," "Dogs of War” and many others.
On stage, Broadbent appeared in Sam Mendes's production of "Habeas Corpus" at the Donmar Warehouse and in the Feydeau farce "A Flea In Her Ear" at the Old Vic. Other stage credits include "The Recruiting Officer" at London's Royal Court, "The Winter's Tale," "Kafka's Dick," "Deliberate Death of a Polish Priest," "The Government Inspector," "Every Good Boy Deserves A Favor" and "Our Friends in the North" with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Broadbent also appeared on stage at the Hampstead Theater Club in two Mike Leigh productions, "Goose Pimples" and "Ecstasy."
Broadbent's British television credits are numerous and include "The Peter Principle," "Murder Most Horrid," "A Sense of History" (which he wrote, and which was directed by Mike Leigh), "Inspector Morse," "Revolution," "The Miser," "Conrad," "Happy Families," "Silas Marner," "Only Fools and Horses," "The Last Company Car" and many other BBC and Channel Four dramas.
