get rich or die tryin'

My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, In America, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Hmmm, can you name the title that doesn't fit? A 56-year-old director hailing from Ireland and a 29-year-old rap star hailing from Jamaica, Queens probably doesn't look like the likeliest of pairings. "I can hang out with Jim, like just kick it. He yelled at me one time, towards the end. It started getting towards the end and it didn't matter if I quit or not. (Laughs) We were in the Bronx, shooting exteriors, and they don't understand that, once we get back to New York, I am 50 Cent regardless to what character I'm playing… Once we in the street and there is 2,000 kids at the barricade, they'll say, '50, focus, don't pay attention to the people, it's okay.'
And it starts out, 'Yo 50! We love you.' And then they notice that you're not acknowledging them period, and then it's like, 'Yo 50! F*** you 50!" You see what I'm saying, it turns into anything they can say to get your attention. They really don't have bad intentions… I threw money in the crowd, and the kids started running all over the place. Jim goes, 'Arrgghhh! What the f***? You think you would do something better than that. The kids are gonna kill each other.' He talks funny, you know? He probably thinks I talk funny."
The comparisons between Get Rich and label mate Eminem's highly successful film biopic, 8 Mile, are inevitable, right down to the unlikely directors. 50 says that Eminem didn't offer much encouragement at first. "Em was no help for me on this film. He started out, teasing at me [saying], 'Yo, I don't know why you let them talk you into that. It's gonna be terrible. They're going to have you up there 20 hours. You'll be doing this, you'll be doing that. How'd you let them tell you that?' I'm like, 'They told me you said you wanted me to do it…' (Laughs)
Then he gives me a whole other story, [like] 'You know I didn't say nothing like that… Ah man, you let them sucker you.' Then when I get there, I got there the first week and he called me. He's like, 'You like it?' I said, 'Nah, this is cool.' He said, 'I knew it was cool. I was just trying to make you nervous.'" (Laughs)
