50 Cent & Turmoil in Queens

The character of Marcus is only loosely based on Curtis Jackson, but certain events will be instantly familiar to those familiar with 50's life story. "Well, in certain situations, they're totally different. You know, for one, in the Daily News, they said that I must think that the gangster image that I have isn't gangster enough because I mention that I would have shot, I would have killed the guy that I shot in front of the guy in the store in the film.

But they didn't understand the circumstances surrounding it. I was speaking from the character's perspective and what my mind frame would be in that real situation in my life. If someone shot and paralyzed my friend in a night club and we specifically knew and was going back to address it, I don't think I could possibly walk away from just shooting him in the leg, because he already had the capabilities to shoot and paralyze my best friend. So I thought in my mind whether he would actually hurt me. All you're doing is aggravating him; he'll be out of the hospital in a week.

You know what a gun shot wound to the leg is? It's assault. You can do that right now and be home in a couple years. You see what I'm saying? With a deadly weapon it's worse, but it's still assault classified. You can't say it was attempted murder unless you shot like 500 times and only hit him in the leg. (Laughs) It's not a big deal, in the environment it's not."
